NABUUR.com: “Where you can actually do something for a village community”
NABUUR.com is an online platform where local communities (‘villages’) needing help come into direct contact with people who live elsewhere and want to help them (‘neighbours’). These ‘virtual neighbours’ use their knowledge, contacts and energy to give the local community access to resources available elsewhere. That way they help the villages to solve their local issues, without the need to go anywhere.
As a neighbour, you can help any village of your choice by looking for information on the Internet; contacting organizations and people you know; or using your creativity and other skills. This provides you the opportunity to do something useful in your area of interest (location, local people, culture, development topic); to actually volunteer and help real people without a high investment in time, effort or money; to meet likeminded people; and to learn and do something new and meaningful.
Run by Stichting NABUUR, a Netherlands based not-for-profit-foundation, this new initiative already has more than 300 neighbours offering their voluntary help to 12 villages in Africa, Asia, Europe, North Central America, and South America.
