South Asia tsunami: One year of volunteer commitment
It was a year ago that devastating tsunamis hit South Asia, leaving an estimated 150,000 people dead and hundreds of thousands displaced and homeless. One of the important resources in the massive post-tsunami recovery operations, biggest in history, has been volunteers. In a special coverage, we document how volunteers have been helping the tsunami survivors over the past year.

Slideshow: Volunteers in disaster response
Immediately after any disaster, volunteers - often the members of the local communities - play a crucial role in rescuing the survivors and bringing emergency relief and medical aid to them. As relief and aid arrive from other places, volunteers' responsibilities extend to post-disaster recovery and rehabilitation activities. It's time to donate a little more

New York, USA: When you work in the nonprofit sector, you are regularly reminded of the generosity of Americans, whether evidenced by the loyal perseverance of board members or the unstinting efforts of volunteers and staff. In New York City alone, there are more than 99,000 board members and 342,000 volunteers working at no pay to help NYC's nonprofits.

Away from the limelight, volunteers continue rebuilding Pakistan
